About this driver

This is a driver for using the UM-ONE on macOS 10.13.
If your device has a [COMP/TAB] switch, set the [COMP/TAB] switch to "COMP" before use.

*Mac computers running Microsoft Windows are not supported.

Cautions and Limitations


Installation

*If a dialog box requesting a password appears during installation, enter your password and click [Install Software].
  1. Start computer with all USB cables disconnected.
    (except the keyboard and mouse)
  2. Double-click "UMOne_USBDriver1013.pkg."
  3. A screen will ask whether you want to run a program that checks whether installation is possible; click [Continue].
  4. The display will indicate "Welcome to the UM-ONE Driver Installer"; click [Continue].
  5. If a screen appears, asking you to choose the installation location, click the system drive to select it, and then click [Continue].
  6. The installation type will be displayed; click [Install] or [Upgrade].
  7. A screen will ask you to confirm that it is OK to restart your computer when installation finishes. Make sure that no applications are running, then click [Continue Installation].
  8. When the installation is completed, click [Restart] to restart your computer.
    *If you are prompted to confirm wether to move the installer to the Trash, click [Keep].
    *It may take some time for restarting the computer.
  9. When the computer restarts, connect UM-ONE to the computer with a USB cable.
  10. When connecting the UM-ONE for the first time, the message "System Extension Blocked" may be displayed.
    If this happens, click [OK], and then unblock by the following procedure.
    1. In "System Preferences," click "Security & Privacy."
    2. Open the General tab and check if any message indicating the loading of the system software being blocked is displayed.
      *If not displayed, restart the computer, connect UM-ONE to the computer, and then check the display again.
    3. If displayed, confirm that the publisher is "Roland Corporation" and click "Allow".
      *If the loading of system software of multiple publishers is blocked, click "Allow" to display a list of developers. Select "Roland Corporation" and then click [OK].
    4. If asked to restart, click [Restart] to restart the computer.

This completes installation of the UM-ONE driver.

*The Readme file and driver uninstaller are installed in the Applications - Roland - UM-ONE Driver folder.

Before you begin

*If your device has a [COMP/TAB] switch, set the [COMP/TAB] switch to "COMP" before use.

Settings for MIDI input and output on macOS

  1. Use a USB cable to connect the UM-ONE with your computer.
  2. In the Applications - Utilities folder, double-click "Audio MIDI Setup" to start it up.
  3. From the Window menu, choose "Show MIDI Studio" to open the MIDI Studio window.
  4. In the "MIDI Studio" dialog box, make sure that "UM-ONE" is displayed.
    *If "UM-ONE" is not shown, or is shown in gray, the UM-ONE has not been recognized correctly. Try clicking "Rescan MIDI". Alternatively, disconnect the USB cable of the UM-ONE and then reconnect it.
    *If you installed a different version driver, it is possible that the previous settings are still present. If so, click the grayed "UM-ONE" to select it, and then click "Remove Device" to delete the previous settings.
  5. Click "Add Device". A "New external device" will appear.
  6. Specify the "Device Name" for the "New external device."
    1. Double-click the added "New external device".
    2. Enter "UM-ONE" in the "Device Name" field.
      *You don't have to enter anything for the "Manufacturer" and "Model" fields.
  7. Using your mouse, drag the up/down arrows indicating the input/output port to make the following connections.
  8. To verify that MIDI transmission/reception is occurring correctly, perform the following procedure.
  9. Click "Test Setup".
  10. Click the ▼ of the UM-ONE that was shown in step 4. If the UM-ONE's OUTPUT indicator for the corresponding port blinks, the settings have been made correctly.
  11. Click "Test Setup" once again to end the test.
  12. From the Audio MIDI Setup menu, choose "Quit Audio MIDI Setup" to exit the settings.

Before you use the UM-ONE with software

  1. Use a USB cable to connect the UM-ONE with your computer. Then, start up the software you will be using.
  2. Select "UM-ONE" in the MIDI driver setting of your software.

For details, refer to the manual that came with your software.


To uninstall

  1. Start computer with all USB cables disconnected.
    (except the keyboard and mouse)
  2. Double-click "Uninstaller."
  3. The display will indicate "This uninstalls UM-ONE driver from this Mac."; click [Uninstall].
    *If any other message appears, proceed as directed by that message.
  4. The display will indicate "Are you sure you want to uninstall the driver?"; click [OK].
  5. A dialog box will ask you for a password; enter your password and click [OK].
  6. The display will indicate "Uninstallation is completed."; click [Restart]. Your computer will then restart.
    *It may take some time for restarting the computer.

Troubleshooting

Cannot install/uninstall the driver

Follow the procedure described below to start the installer/uninstaller.
  1. Hold down the Control key and click the installer/uninstaller icon.
  2. On the menu that appears, select "Open."
  3. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to start the application, click "Open."
Check the security settings.
  1. In "System Preferences," click "Security & Privacy."
  2. Click the lock icon on the bottom left. When a dialog box requesting a password appears, enter the administrator's password to unlock.
  3. On the General tab, change the "Allow apps downloaded from"/"Allow applications downloaded from" setting to "App Store and identified developers."
    *When you finish installing or uninstalling the driver, change the setting back to the original setting using the same procedure.

Cannot select the UM-ONE device

Check the security settings to see if the loading of the driver is blocked
  1. In "System Preferences," click "Security & Privacy."
  2. Open the General tab and check if any message indicating the loading of the system software being blocked is displayed.
    *If not displayed, restart the computer, connect UM-ONE to the computer, and then check the display again.
  3. If displayed, confirm that the publisher is "Roland Corporation" and click "Allow".
    *If the loading of system software of multiple publishers is blocked, click "Allow" to display a list of developers. Select "Roland Corporation" and then click [OK].
  4. If asked to restart, click [Restart] to restart the computer.
 
If your device has a [COMP/TAB] switch, is the [COMP/TAB] switch set to "COMP"?
Set the [COMP/TAB] switch to "COMP."
 
Did the computer enter a Sleep mode while the UM-ONE was connected?
If the computer entered a Sleep mode while the UM-ONE was connected, it may not operate correctly. In this case, after resuming, exit all software that are using the UM-ONE, and disconnect the USB cable of the UM-ONE and reconnect it.
 
If you start or restart Mac while UM-ONE is still connected to Mac, the driver may not be loaded properly and you may not be able to use UM-ONE.
In such a case, disconnect UM-ONE and connect it to another USB port or connect UM-ONE after Mac starts up.
 

No sound is heard; cannot playback or record

Check the security settings to see if the loading of the driver is blocked
 
Could you have entered Sleep mode during playback or recording?
If you entered Sleep mode during playback or recording, it will no longer be possible to play back or record from the UM-ONE. Exit all currently playing or recording software, and disconnect/reconnect the USB cable of the UM-ONE.
